I would have to attribute most of his playing ability to his eyesight, however, and his fashion sense. Hamilton was a different player after he put on the mask he is one of the greatest to ever do so. The Detroit Pistons ended their 2003-04 season by capturing their first NBA Championship since 1990. He came back from injury that season with a clear mask on, that struck fear into his opponents’ hearts. Hamilton broke his nose twice in 2003, and the rest goes down in face and eyewear history. Although technically not a rec specs wearer, Rip Hamilton had the effect of wearing glasses every time he stepped onto the court. Nobody cared who he was until he put on the mask. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, but they all have spectacles. 500 with three home runs to keep the team rolling until The Jet sorted out his swing. During a long Benny Rodriguez slump during Pony League, Squints hit. Although never the star of the show, (and, with The Jet around, you can’t really blame him) Squints was able to aid in his team’s successes. What a lot of people didn’t know about The Sandlot, is how much of a diamond in the rough Squints was. They create a sort of poker face that adds another layer of intimidation. This way, when she is down, an opponent can’t tell. But their bigger purpose is seen in her success they prevent the other team from reading her emotions. Firstly, as one may expect, they are used to improve eyesight. As a volleyball player myself, the glasses’ purpose is two-fold. Walsh Jennings is a 3-time gold medalist at the Olympics due to her work ethic, dedication, and spectacles. As it turns out, the spectacles would have been a part of me, not an extension of me. I thought I would be stuck thinking about the glasses more than the game itself, and I didn’t want a distraction. I didn’t even want to wear them to school, let alone practice and games. I was just the tender age of 16, and wearing glasses during contact sports seemed like a bad idea. You see, I did not realize how beautiful the rec specs were. My father had a strap in his hand that would have held my glasses in place while I ran, and I turned him down. I opted not to wear them while I play sports. My worst decision in life came not soon after I got my first pair of spectacles. I look smarter, I can accessorize with them, and I can hide some of my admittedly massive eyebrows. My best choice was opting to wear glasses in my day-to-day life. Truth be told, I have made good and bad choices. Others, like me, have to jump on the opportunity when it arrives. Some people are just born with the ability to look good. Ever since I was handed my first pair of glasses, I knew I had to make a choice: I could either live in regret and wear contacts, or own it and live the framed life.
